Sheri
From: United States

1. How and when did you first hear about Elvis Presley?
: I was a toddler. My parents would listen to him on the radio and TV. I remember seeing him too! He did "something" to me, because that was THE music for me for the rest of my life!!

2. What was it that got you hooked on Elvis?
: Elvis' style, song choices, and naturally his style of "dance". I felt as if he was standing right in front of ME, singing to ME...as if it were "personal" in a way. Like we were connecting...mentally. Sounds stupid, but it's true. I still feel it.

3. If Elvis were alive, what would you like to say to him or ask him?
"My Message to Elvis": Wow, I'm stumped...this is tough. I guess my message to Elvis would be: Mr. Presley, you have given my life happiness when I could not find any. I would sit in a room alone, put on one of your albums and your voice would fill my entire soul and body. I would sing along with you. You always had a perfect song I needed to hear for whatever I was going through. Your music was, is, and will continue to be my life. I also have video of you to soothe my eyes. To satisfy my mind. I wish I had something to give you in exchange for all you've given me. I have no riches or talent to fill a void like that. If I were to ever meet you, my life would be complete. You are not my idol, for as a christian (as you would understand)thou shalt not have no idols before me...meaning my God is my idol. But Mr. Presley, Elvis, you are next in line. I wish I could travel with you to a country far away where you would not be recognized, and show you the pleasures of life. Away from the fame, and the lights, and the screaming fans. I would show you: a walk through a meadow, a stroll down a stream, camping in the rolling hills, laying on a beach, ...just taking time to smell the roses. I could talk forever....(duh!) I love you, Mr. Presley, and miss you dearly.

4. WHICH is your favourite Elvis Presley song or movie? And why is it your favourite?
: This is not a fair question!! You are asking me to choose ONE song??? I'm gonna go wayyy out there and choose Clean Up Your Own Backyard.
And my favorite movie...hmmmm... I will have to say Charro. Because I love westerns, plus he looks super sexy in this one!!

5. Which is your favourite SUIT that Elvis wore on stage?
: 1) I love the Fringe suit!!!
2) Then the Eagle suit!!

6. Who do you think Elvis loved most in his life, his greatest love?
: You could go different aspects of love with this question. But I will start with the first love of his life...his mama.
His grandma.
Then Priscilla.
Then Lisa Marie.
These are the ONLY women he truly ever "loved" forever.

7. Where were you and what were you doing when you heard that Elvis had died?
: I was a sophmore in HS at work at a restaraunt. I heard the news, then ran to the pay phone to call my parents to tell them, then I went to the back room on a "break", and cried my eyes out. The other workers thought I was crazy. I didn't care. I hurt so bad from that day on.

8. Why do you think Elvis still attracts new fans every year, even long after his death?
: Elvis is a true talent that speaks to your soul. It's like he sends a message to you individually while he performs. He makes you feel as if you are his best friend and nobody else matters. Elvis has a power of creating music into his "own" which makes it unique. And this makes it irrisistible NOT to enjoy no matter WHAT age you are or what type of music you like! Every one can relate to Elvis!

Have you been to Graceland?...If so, would you like to share your experience or feelings on this site?
: No. I hope to get there "some" day. But not looking good yet.

Elvis was a trend leader and constantly "transformed" himself in his career, like Madonna & music stars are famous for doing nowdays. Which are your favourite "Elvis eras" in his career?
: Las Vegas stage superstar

4) Favourite Elvis song Lyrics for
Clean Up Your Own Backyard

This new feature of our ezine is for karaoke superstars & the fans that just like to sing-along with the King.

LYRICS:

Back porch preacher preaching at me
Acting like he wrote the golden rules
Shaking his fist and speeching at me
Shouting from his soap box like a fool
Come Sunday morning he's lying in bed
With his eye all red, with the wine in his head
Wishing he was dead when he oughta be
Heading for Sunday school

Clean up your own backyard
Oh don't you hand me none of your lines
Clean up your own backyard
You tend to your business, I'll tend to mine

Drugstore cowboy criticizing
Acting like he's better than you and me
Standing on the sidewalk supervising
Telling everybody how they ought to be
Come closing time 'most every night
He locks up tight and out go the lights
And he ducks out of sight and he cheats on his wife
With his employee

Clean up your own backyard
Oh don't you hand me none of your lines
Clean up your own backyard
You tend to your business, I'll tend to mine

Armchair quarterback's always moanin'
Second guessing people all day long
Pushing, fooling and hanging on in
Always messing where they don't belong
When you get right down to the nitty-gritty
Isn't it a pity that in this big city
Not a one a'little bitty man'll admit
He could have been a little bit wrong

Clean up your own backyard
Oh don't you hand me, don't you hand me none of your lines
Clean up your own backyard
You tend to your business, I'll tend to mine

Clean up your own backyard
You tend to your business, I'll tend to mine

5) Elvis Presley Forever:

Elvis Presley’s Arizona memorial, benefit show

This is one of the all time great benefit performances in history of show business. Elvis Presley was right for this cause, being only twelve months out of his army uniform, for the location of the show was to be held at (Block

Elvis performs to raise $50,000 for the Arizona Memorial. Elvis put in $100.00 of his own money as a starter. Elvis would make this benefit show a personal drive to raise $50,000 for the USS Arizona Memorial memorial fund.

1961, Saturday March 25, the benefit show was held at Pearl Harbors Block arena. This appearance would be a first for Elvis outside his home town Memphis Tennessee. His last public appearance was in Honolulu, being over three years ago.

Elvis’ manager colonel Tom Parker- said Elvis will perform for nothing and all box office money receipts will go into the memorial fund. Colonel Parker made it clearly understood that ‘every penny raised for the benefit must go to the fund; in fact Elvis bought the first ticket for $100.00, Elvis said, “ if I gotta pay to get on stage to sing, that’s good enough for me.”

There were around 4,000 seats available, with one hundred seats available at ringside, which would go on sale for one hundred dollars each, the rest of the seating tickets would be for sale at a price to suit everyone’s pocket.

The Arizona Memorial benefit show was very successful raising a total of $62,000 for the Pacific War Memorial.

The half-million dollar, 186-foot-long U.S.S. Arizona Memorial concrete façade was complete about twelve month’s later, credit for much of the funding has always belonged to Elvis Presley.

Elvis wasn’t able to return to the Memorial until 1965 due to his busy schedule. Chairman of the Pacific War Memorial Commission, Tucker Gratz, greets Elvis. Elvis and Colonel Tom Parker honor the ship and the men who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor with two 5-foot wreaths, each wreath bore inscriptions on gold ribbon.

The wreath in the shape of a bell with the words “Gone But Not Forgotten, form Elvis and the Colonel.” “USS Arizona,” covered with red carnations across the bottom of it.

The second wreath; also being signed by Elvis and the Colonel, inscribed the words “In Memory of Pearl Habor, 1941.”

The bell shaped wreath was made with exactly 1,177 carnations, in honor of each man and officer lost on the Arizona.

7) Elvis Presley Trivia:

• On his 70th birthday, Larry King wondered how Elvis would look today. To this, Aaron Brown responded: "Probably like all those Elvis impersonators".

• Elvis' height was officially measured in the army twice and was stated at 6'.0.5 inches in bare foot and 6'.1.75 inches with shoes.

The 2002 Disney animated feature Lilo and Stitch contains more Elvis songs than there are in several movies in which Elvis himself starred. The film's closing sequence also features a montage of photographs, one of which portrays the film's main characters posing before the gates of Graceland . The film also broke several rules related to Elvis in films which included using his photo, shortening his songs for time and dressing up like him. However, the Graceland estate allowed the producers this degree of freedom.

Some humour to put a smile on your face!

Life Lessons

Remember: A friend will come bail you out of jail....

But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying ...

“WE sure messed up!” (or… “Boy that was fun!”)

I've learned....That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned....That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

I've learned....That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned....That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned...That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned....That the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

I've learned....That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned...That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned...That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned....That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've learned...That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned....That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned...That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

I've learned....That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned...That I wish I could have told those I cared about that I love them one more time before they passed away.

I've learned....That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned....That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned....That I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.

I've learned....That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness, and growth happen while you're climbing it.

I've learned....That the less time I have to work, the more things I get done.
