Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine. Elvis Presley

Every time I think that I'm getting old, and gradually going to the grave, something else happens. Elvis Presley

From the time I was a kid, I always knew something was going to happen to me. Didn't know exactly what. Elvis Presley

Lisa Marie Quotes

I do like to write nasty songs. It's a useful weapon to have, and it's cathartic as well, because I create art out of anger, something positive out of something negative. Lisa Marie Presley

I don't deal well with admiration if it's for something I haven't done. Other than exist. Lisa Marie Presley

2) Elvis Presley & other Legends

Gospel Music Roots Of Elvis Presley And His Inspiration

Ironically, for all the controversy surrounding his early career, Elvis Presley's roots in religious music ran deep.

In Tupelo, Mississippi, Vernon and Gladys Presley were what was disparagingly referred to as poor white trash from the "wrong side of the tracks" at the east end of town.

Their Depression-era home (where Elvis was born in 1935) was a two-room shack on one of several dirt tracks forming a small community off Old Saltillo Road.

They belonged to a local Assembly of God Pentecostal church which played an important role in their lives. For Elvis Presley it provided an environment from which he would instinctively adopt the music, sound and accompanying body movements in his later rock and roll singing performances.

The African American form of music that became known as Rhythm & Blues (which also evolved from gospel songs) was also a part of Presley's childhood world and he probably heard it on a regular basis in the black section of Tupelo known as "Shakerag" (which was between Tupelo and East Tupelo, and was demolished in the 1960s as part of an urban renewal project).

The church is said to have brought the Presleys, along with the rest of its desperately poor congregation, a message of hope wrapped around "Hell, fire, and brimstone" sermons.

For nearly a quarter century the Pentecostal movement was interracial and during the 1930s and 1940s many of these poor churches did not adopt the growing policy of racial segregation.

Although Vernon Presley's family was Pentecostal and his sister Nash Presley became a minister, his wife Gladys was Elvis's devoutly religious parent.

Her uncle Gains Mansell was also a Pentecostal preacher in East Tupelo whose interracial church services began with revival meetings held in a tent. Pentecostal church services started, centered and ended with music and everyone was encouraged to "make a joyous noise unto the Lord."

HELLO Mark

Thank you for your comments on our survey. Elvis was the greatest, and still is…! He never forgot his upbringing, he loved his family, fans and always helped those less fortunate. There will never be anyone quite like him ever again. Once Elvis has touched your heart, that’s where he will stay. He has had quite an effect on our lives, he was one remarkable man. The American Eagle costume is a favorite of mine too, but naturally he looked great in all his costumes. He was soooo handsome! Elvis certainly gave his fans value when he got on that stage, he was quite the showman. Adored by many world wide. I hope to visit Graceland one day, I’m sure the experience leaves you with the feeling of being part of his world, if only for a short time, how wonderful to have those treasured memories. Great hearing from you mark, take care!

4) Favourite Elvis song Lyrics for
In The Ghetto

This new feature of our ezine is for karaoke superstars & the fans that just like to sing-along with the King.

LYRICS:

As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
'Cause if there's one thing that she don't need
It's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto

People, don't you understand
The child needs a helping hand
Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me,
Are we too blind to see,
Do we simply turn our heads
And look the other way

Well the world turns
And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto

And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
In the ghetto

Then one night in desperation
A young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
Tries to run, but he don't get far
And his mama cries

As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
Face down in the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto

As her young man dies,
On a cold and grey Chicago mornin',
Another little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries

In the ghetto
In the ghetto

7) Elvis Presley Trivia:

Sightings of Elvis in the Yukon Territory are completely believable, since "Tagish" Elvis Presley, a local resident, has not only legally adopted the name, but dresses as Elvis and believes he is a reincarnation of Elvis.

Many people have noticed that "Elvis" and "Lives" are anagrams of each other.

8) Editor’s Notes & Fun Stuff:

Some humour to put a smile on your face!

Mid-Life Message!

I've seen two shows lately that went on and on about how mid-life is a great time for women.

Just last week Oprah had a whole show on how great menopause will be....

Puhleeeeeeeze!

I've had a few thoughts of my own and would like to share them with you. Whether you are pushing 40, 50, 60 (or maybe even just pushing your luck) you'll probably relate.

Mid-life is when the growth of hair on our legs slows down. This gives us plenty of time to care for our newly acquired moustache.

In mid-life women no longer have upper arms, we have wingspans. We are no longer women in sleeveless shirts, we are flying squirrels in drag.

Mid-life is when you can stand naked in front of a mirror and you can see your rear without turning around.

Mid-life is when you go for a mammogram and you realize that this is the only time someone will ask you to appear topless.

Mid-life is when you want to grab every firm young lovely in a tube top and scream, "Listen honey, even the Roman empire fell and those will too."

Mid-life brings wisdom to know that life throws us curves and we're sitting on our biggest ones.

Mid-life is when you look at your-know-it-all, beeper-wearing teenager and think: "For this I have stretch marks?"

In mid-life your memory starts to go. In fact the only thing we can retain is water.

Mid-life means that your Body By Jake now includes Legs By Rand McNally -- more red and blue lines than an accurately scaled map of Wisconsin.

Mid-life means that you become more reflective... You start pondering the "big" questions. What is life? Why am I here? How much Healthy Choice ice cream can I eat before it's no longer a healthy choice?

But mid-life also brings with it an appreciation for what is important.

We realize that breasts sag, hips expand and chins double, but our loved ones make the journey worthwhile. Would any of you trade the knowledge that you have now for the body you had way back when?

Maybe our bodies simply have to expand to hold all the wisdom and love we've acquired.

That's my philosophy and I'm sticking to it!

REMEMBER: "Stressed" spelled backward is "desserts."
